Terumo Cardiovascular Systems
Conduit Quality Counts
Consistent conduit quality – a major factor in the success of coronary artery bypass grafting – and a goal of all cardiac surgery teams.
The VirtuoSaph™ Endoscopic Vein Harvesting System is designed to elevate standards for conduit quality and consistently achieve them. When used with the Terumo Technique, it realizes two pivotal outcomes:
- Limiting of Thermal Spread
- The “cutting triad” – grounding at the tunnel wall, low wattage and branch tautness –
- delivers low targeted energy at the tunnel wall, away from the main conduit.
- The fixed distance between the V-keeper, which gently encapsulates the vein, and the V-cutter, which simultaneously seals and cuts the branches, results in
- an optimal transection location on the branch, plus
- sealing and cutting near the tunnel wall.
- The resulting longer branches make post-procedure handling easier.
- Reducing the Risk of CO2 Embolism and Intraluminal Thrombus
- Open CO2 delivery at the distal end of the dissector and harvester reduces the risk of CO2 embolism and helps deliver a conduit that retains its native moisture.
- A non-occlusive trocar allows steady advancement of the harvester or dissector without impeding blood flow at the incision site. Research has shown that clot formation can result if stagnant blood, that is not anti-coagulated, is allowed to remain within a collapsed saphenous vein.
- The Terumo Technique includes two-pass dissection and one-pass harvesting specifically designed to minimize vessel manipulation.
